Books for the Children of Moore, Oklahoma

When my husband was branched Field Artillery, we spent some time at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. We watched some violent storms and had some tornado warnings and watches but there was no major damage while we were there.

This spring, the people of Oklahoma have had their lives literally torn apart by the destructive forces of major tornadoes. With the destruction of Hurricane Sandy on Long Island still fresh in my mind, I really feel for the survivors and the families of those who died.

Moore Oklahoma Tornado

When this e-mail from Family-to-Family showed up in my inbox, I knew that this was something small I could do. My kids and I can fill a flat rate box with new books and send it to the elementary schools in Moore. It isn’t much but it is a gesture of human compassion for the children of Moore.

From Family-to-Family:

We’ve all seen the pictures of the devastation brought by the deadly tornado that tore through Moore, Oklahoma on May 20th.  With so much lost, it’s hard to know where to begin to help.

We think one meaningful way to make a difference is to put books — a source of both comfort and escape — back into the hands of Moore’s children.

The principals at Briarwood and Plaza Towers Elementary Schools in Moore are  thrilled and eager to receive your purchased books.

Please consider “sharing your bounty” by sending new books for children between 5 and 12 years old to Moore!

And we’d love to have a book count to ensure that all the kids are getting something!  Please email us at books@family-to-family.org  letting us know how many books you’re sending and what age(s) they are for.  You can also post about your donation to our Facebook page!

Books should be shipped to:
